Weekend a test for Boomers

Eaton Boomers coach Brett Maguire believes Saturday afternoon’s SWFL showdown against Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault at Brunswick Oval will be ideal to test his side’s overall progression.

“We’ve had a good start to the season – as have HBL,” he said.

“We are just trying to see where we sit in this competition. We are very much looking forward to the challenge from HBL on their home ground.”

The Boomers’ forward line has been energised by the dynamic performances of Jarrod Humphries, with Maguire a firm believer that his hard work during the pre-season is paying massive dividends to the playing group.

“He is off to a flier,” he said.

“He put in a reasonable pre-season with his training and he has led from that. He is an exciting player to watch when he is up and about – because he moves very smoothly across the ground.

“I think this has also allowed other guys who are in the forward line – along with the team – to have added confidence.

“He is an exciting footballer to watch, there is no doubt about that.”

At the Lions den, coach John Baggetta is orchestrating a positive start to the season and is keen for his men to deliver against another premiership contender.

“The start has been pretty good,” he said.

“We had a fairly good game against Bunbury and all-round effort against Augusta-Margaret River down there.

“Obviously we’ve had a few weeks off, but that’s no drama. The guys have bought in to what we are trying to do.

“It’s still early – there will be ups and downs, but we just have to keep going and you have to play better opposition to see where you are at.

“The next couple of weeks are going to be good.”
