William Barrett and Sons to soon unveil “State’s best” funeral care centre
Bunbury funeral directors William Barrett and Sons will soon open what they claim is WA’s best funeral care centre.
Funeral director Adrian Barrett said that care for the deceased and a well thought-out flow were priorities when designing the new centre on Zaknic Place.
“The main thing we deal with is people’s loved ones and once they go into our care they often aren’t seen until the day of the funeral,” he said.
“We’ve always tried to provide the best service for families but the main person in the event is the person that has died — we need to provide the best facilities for that person.”
The company’s Spencer Street chapel will remain its main centre of operations but Mr Barrett said the company had outgrown it.
“We don’t want to have to think about building another mortuary for 30 years,” he said. “We’ll keep our vehicles here, prepare our caskets and coffins here and prepare the deceased here.”
Industry professional Belinda Crossingham consulted on parts of the project and said the state-of-the-art centre was the best she had seen in Australia.
“I have seen quite a few mortuaries — the thing that stands out for me is the flow in and out,” she said.
“The other things I like is that families can have a vigil visitation — if it was my child I’d want to come and spend time with them and I haven’t seen that anywhere before.
“If I had a dream funeral home, this centre would be my dream mortuary.”
