Wine region is forging international reputation
With the weather so welcoming outside, it is the perfect time of year to enjoy the Geographe Wine Region – an area fast earning a reputation as one of WA’s most exciting new wine regions.
The region spans from Harvey to Busselton and to Donnybrook in the east and is nipping at the heels of the renowned Margaret River Region.
The Geographe Wine Region is one of Australia’s most geographically diverse regions, featuring a number of smaller vineyards and wineries owned and operated by families you can meet at the cellar doors.
Proud and passionate about what their region produces, this up-and-coming region is making waves in not only the Australian, but global wine scene.
The town of Harvey has a unique Italian heritage which has influenced the community to lead a relaxed and friendly lifestyle along the Harvey River.
At the foothills of the Darling Range, Harvey sits on fertile and irrigated plains and has built a reputation for prime beef production, citrus growing, dairy farming and viticulture.
There is plenty to see and do in Harvey such as visiting wineries, bushwalking, fishing, swimming, camping or enjoying a picnic.
Some of the wineries to add to your checklist are Harvey River Bridge Estate, Myalup Vines Winery, Moojelup Farm, Vineyard 28 and Fifth Estate Wines.
Stop by for some gourmet cheese at Ha Ve Harvey Cheese or visit Stirling Cottage, where May Gibbs, author of children’s book Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, lived with her family in 1885.
Another major area of the Geographe Wine Region is Ferguson Valley – a mere 15-minute drive from Bunbury.
Steep winding roads, a breathtaking backdrop of rolling hills, meandering streams and grazing cattle is sure to captivate any visitor’s attention.
A must-stop destination is Gnomesville – a village of thousands of gnomes on Wellington Mill Road. Other attractions are bushwalking and mountain biking, with one of WA’s best mountain bike trails on offer at Mount Lennard.
With small and big wineries, as well as a couple of breweries, there are plenty world class beverages to sample in the Valley.
This summer is the perfect time to explore the fantastic sights and produce located right on our doorstep.
