Workshop’s weed focus
Dozens of people took part in the Leschenault Biosecurity Group’s weed identification and advice workshop held at the Dardanup Hall on September 20.
More than 70 samples of weeds for identification were brought along and offered to guest speakers Greg Keighery and Andrew Mitchell.
Botanist and senior principal research scientist for the Department of Parks and Wildlife Mr Keighery and botanist and former quarantine officer Mr Mitchell, provided their expert advice on the various weeds and valuable information on suitable control. Mr Keighery said it was great to see such high community interest.
“There are so many weeds out there as we have seen from the samples provided at the workshop,” Mr Keighery said.
“It is impossible to deal with them all individually and it is important that we prioritise the weeds.
Reporting of weeds is critical to prioritising and I encourage members of the community to use the reporting tools that are available.
Project officer Julie Chapman said it was great to meet landholders and hear their issues.
