An under-12 girls team from Bunbury is making waves across the State after winning three championships in the past six months.

The team from the Bunbury Basketball Association won the regional championships in November, while also the winning division three State Championships and then the Country Championships division one title this year.

Coach Sam Fotu said the eight girls had been together for the past two years and were well prepared.

“We just focus on defence,” he said.

“A lot of kids just want to shoot the ball. Our focus was on the other end of the court.”

Fotu said he could not be prouder of the team.

“Seeing their development is why all coaches do the job I think,” he said.

Fotu said half the team would represent the South West Slammers in the West Australian Basketball League this year and he hoped the team would come back together next summer.

“We are discussing what to do with this group,” he said.

“We haven’t ruled out taking them interstate.”
