A 23-year-old man who escaped custody in Halls Creek in the early hours of this morning has handed himself in to police and is back in detention.

Police issued a call for public assistance on Thursday morning to track down Quentin Palmer, who was last seen about 2am in Halls Creek after fleeing from police.

It is alleged Mr Palmer escaped after assaulting officers while being arrested, fleeing on foot.

He handed himself in to police wearing handcuffs before 11am.

It comes as police in the West Kimberley continue their search for escapee Warrick Walkerbear, who remains on the run after scaling a fence at Broome Regional Prison on Tuesday afternoon.
