Perth motorists faced major delays heading into the weekend, with a string of crashes and breakdowns causing road closures and traffic chaos across the city.

Main Roads WA confirmed Armadale Road is closed westbound between Gribble Avenue and Seventy Avenue in Armadale after an incident reported at about 4.10pm but it was reopened shortly after with traffic now flowing normally.

Motorists have been urged to avoid the area and find an alternative route.

Traffic also ground to a halt on Toodyay Road eastbound after Roe Highway following a crash reported about 4pm.

Main Roads WA confirmed the road was closed and that it reopened at around 4.55pm.

Meanwhile, another crash on the Mitchell Freeway southbound exit to Karrinyup Road blocked the left lane, reported at around 4pm.

The incident was confirmed as cleared with traffic flowing normally at around 4.30pm.
