A woman has died in a horror late-night crash that shut a major Perth highway.

Emergency services were called to Tonkin Highway in Martin about 10.11pm on Friday night after a serious crash that sparked a major emergency response and caused one of the vehicles involved to catch fire.

A 30-year-old woman suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital, where she later died.

A 33-year-old man was seriously injured and taken to Armadale Hospital for treatment.

A 38-year-old man was also injured and taken to Royal Perth Hospital.

Police closed the northbound lanes of Tonkin Highway between Albany Highway and Gosnells Road West while emergency crews worked at the scene.

The highway was reopened about 9am on Saturday, with traffic starting to flow feely.

Major crash officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
