DPIRD issues shark advice after dolphin carcasses reported by Parks and Wildlife officers off Albany harbour

A shark advice was issued for Albany’s Princess Royal Harbour on Wednesday morning after dolphin carcasses were spotted at Melville Point.

The deceased mammals were reported by Parks and Wildlife Service officers at 9.05am and are believed to be part of the pod urged back to sea by members of the public on Tuesday.

The advice came from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development who said it was possible the bodies could attract sharks and warned people to exercise extra caution along the coast.

The DPIRD advice urges the public to adhere to any beach closures and to check activity on the SharkSmart website or app.

Any shark sightings should be reported to the water police on 9442 8600.

A pod of a dozen pantropical spotted dolphins was stranded in the shallows near Albany Entertainment Centre on Monday morning.

One had died and was removed by Parks and Wildlife officials, but the others had seemingly returned to deeper waters after members of the public waded in to help.
