Body recovered from warehouse after major structure fire on Zeta Crescent in O’Connor

A body has been recovered from a major blaze at a warehouse in Perth’s southern suburbs. The structure fire started at a marine engineering facility in O’Connor, near Zeta Crescent, just after 3.30pm on Saturday. It quickly engulfed the building as flames tore through the warehouse roof and black smoke billowed out of the building. The two-storey boat repair facility was full of a range of petrol motors and engines, fuelling the fire. More than a dozen fire crews flooded the scene to battle the blaze, as special operations paramedics and police also rushed to the scene after it was discovered at least one person was trapped inside. It is understood the blaze has since been extinguished, however, WA Police confirmed one person had died in the inferno. “Upon extinguishing the fire, a person was located deceased inside the building,” police said. “Arson Squad detectives are attending the scene to establish the cause of the fire.” It remains unclear if others were injured or inside the building. One witness said she heard a “big, big boom” before feeling a tremor through the ground. “I just heard a big bang it sounded like a building collapsed and then this black smoke, it was like an aeroplane has taken out a building,” another witness said.
