An allegedly drunk driver smashed his car through the wall of a nursing home in a freak crash overnight, miraculously avoiding any injuries.

Police and firefighters rushed to Jeremiah Donovan House in Forrestfield after a white Toyota HiLux went through the wall of the Lewis Road building.

A police spokeswoman said no injuries were reported but described damage to the building as “extensive”.

The car was pictured inside the damaged building, which is operated by Southern Cross Care WA and caters for 65 residents.

Police charged a 19-year-old man with driving under the influence. He will appear in court at a later date.
