Perth, the grey skies and dreary weather aren’t over just yet.
After a wild weekend that saw the city streets coated in puddles and some small hail, the wintry conditions are set to continue through the start of the week.
Residents across Perth’s metropolitan area awoke on Monday morning with chattering teeth, as a cold front passing the region sent overnight temperatures plummeting to 3C.
While the mercury has risen since the morning low, Perth locals are still emerging from their houses bundled in jackets and hoodies as the weather system makes the city feel colder.
The front is expected to bring yet another deluge of rain to the metropolitan area, with the Bureau warning that Perth could get slammed with up to 20mm of rainfall through Monday.
“Another gusty cold front could bring 10 to 20mm of rain across the city and the South West,” meteorologist David Crock said.
It could make Monday the wettest day of August so far — with Saturday’s storm only seeing 17mm of rain fall across the city.
Thunder crashed through parts of the metro area, with small hail and storms remaining a possibility throughout the morning on Monday, as the weather system continues its journey across Perth and the South West.
Wind speeds are set to increase by the early afternoon, as a marine wind warning remains in effect throughout Monday for residents living near the coast.
The Bureau has warned of strong winds affecting the Perth, Geraldton, Bunbury, Albany, and Esperance areas that could reach speeds of 61km/hr, with experts saying wind gusts in the warning areas could hit 84km/hr.
After a weekend filled with rain, storms and chilly conditions, the rest of the week is set to bring much more pleasant conditions.
Showers should become less frequent on Tuesday, with partly cloudy skies and a forecast top of 17C.
Wednesday and Thursday are expected to bring gradually clearing skies with the weather continuing to improve towards the end of the week.
By Saturday, Perth is shaping up for a sunny maximum of 23C.
