Eerie videos have emerged of a man making a joke about the height of a waterfall before he plummeted to his death.
Maurício Marques Gomes died while visiting Cachoeira da Fortuna (Fortune Waterfall) in Macaé, Brazil on October 12.
Local outlet G1 reported that the 32-year-old mechanic was on a solo trip visiting the site, which is nearby to his home, on a public holiday.
Despite having visited the Atalaia Municipal Natural Park before, his sister said this was the first time Mr Gomes had reached the highest part of the Fortune Waterfall.
While on top of the waterfall, he started filming videos to share on WhatsApp.
“After falling from here, my son, only death will survive, right? Are you crazy? Who can withstand that!”, he said in one of the videos.
A friend who watched his WhatsApp videos told G1 that Mr Gomes said he planned to put his phone down to film himself walking across one of the large moss-covered rocks.
Moments later, it is believed he slipped on a rock and fell around 80 metres.
When Mr Gomes did not return home, his friends raised the alarm and began searching for him.
According to TN, his body was found around 3.20pm on October 13 in a pool below the waterfall.
His phone and cap were found at the top of the waterfall.
Forensic experts believe his death was caused by the trauma of the fall.
It is not the first death recorded at the waterfall.
In 2017, a 36-year-old died while attempting to take a selfie at the site.
