Thomasina and Patrick Tobin: Horrifying new details after UK couple killed in jacuzzi incident

Horrifying new details have emerged after a couple died in a hot tub while on holiday on Spain’s east coast.

Thomasina and Patrick Tobin were holidaying in a villa in Cullera when they were found dead in a jacuzzi on August 25.

It is believed the London-based couple were located by their 14- and 16-year-old children, who alerted local authorities.

Initial postmortem analysis suggests Thomasina, 51, and Patrick, 48, suffered cardiopulmonary arrests while in the jacuzzi, and both deaths are not being treated as suspicious.

Primary police investigations were focused on whether the jacuzzi’s suction fittings had malfunctioned, trapping the couple in the tub.

Police also investigated a plethora of theories, including overheating, filtration system malfunction, or a chemical leak, as The Standard reported detectives encountered a “strong chemical smell” coming from the jacuzzi’s location.

However, a family friend has spoken to the Daily Mail and says the Spanish coroner working on the Tobins’ case has highlighted electrocution as the likely cause of death.

The source says Patrick, who hailed from New Zealand, appears to have died while trying to save the Irish-born Thomasina in the aftermath of the electrocution.

“There was total confusion about how such an awful thing could have happened and to some extent there still is,” the source told The Daily Mail.

“I understand now that the coroner’s report puts the cause of death down to electrocution and that one of them was found in the (hot tub) and one of them was next to it.

“The assumption is that Paddy was trying to drag Thomasina out. She was really small, but he was still wet and was then electrocuted himself.”

The couple’s children, who are believed to have special needs, are being cared for by family back in the UK.
