Forget wholesome home cooking and passing veggies around the dinner table, the best way you can help out WA is by smashing down a takeaway.

The Premier himself has given his blessing to West Aussies going on a lockdown takeaway binge in the name of helping out local businesses.

Mark McGowan used today’s COVID press conference to rally WA to get their favourite comfort food in to help keep struggling restaurants ticking.

“It’s not in the health advice but I know it’s important,” he said.

“Today and tomorrow if you can please support a local small business, whether you grab a coffee after your daily exercise or get a takeaway for dinner tonight. It would mean so much to these small businesses and their staff.”

He also ensured all exposure sites would be deep cleaned and shouldn’t be struck off once they reopened.

“When the times comes for them to reopen, they’ll need their local support more than ever before,” he said.

And, because we’re all good sports in the west, it seems we’re all happy to do our bit — if we really must.

Twitter users were among the first to jump on the takeaway train and, if you’re a fan of sweet things, it seems you’ll have to fight The West Australian’s Kate Emery and Twitter user Rod Clark for them.

And as Pretzel Communications’ Amber Sheldon pointed out, there’s nothing like a guilt trip to have a cheat night.

“I’m going to feel guilty about cooking but not getting a takeaway....what a time to be alive,” she wrote.

And, as 7NEWS’ Syan Dougherty pointed out, not all heroes wear capes, some wear their PJs and eat from cardboard boxes.

“Last time I ordered UberEats they included a little thank you message and I felt like a hero,” she wrote.

But, if you are going to get a takeaway, might we recommend a kebab. After all it is the Premier’s choice.

Mr McGowan made headlines during the height of the pandemic last year after being asked about a whether West Australians would be fined for going for a jog and sitting down to eat a kebab, like a man had in New South Wales.

The question caused the previously stoney-faced Premier to crack into hysterical laughter on live television.

And, in a stroke of PR genius, his PR team made sure his first post-lockdown meal was none other than a greasy kebab from his local.

The video was brilliantly captioned: “Happy Phase 3 Western Australia! I didn’t run here, but I could have.”

Cancer Council WA today urged people to opt for “healthy options”.

“While meal delivery apps may try to emphasise their healthy offerings, we know that the great majority of meals ordered through these services are junk food, with the top meal suggestions often dominated by offerings from fast food chains,” obesity prevention manager Ainslie Satori said.

“We can support local businesses and still eat healthily.”
