VideoA major fire at Geelong's oil refinery has reduced petrol production by 40 per cent, though diesel and aviation fuel remain at 80 per cent capacity.

WA has fallen behind all other mainland States in the uptake of the Federal Government’s home energy upgrade scheme, which has reached the milestone of 10,000 upgrades nationally.

While States like Queensland, 3524 upgrades, and NSW, 2919, have seen uptake in the thousands, WA households have only accessed 587.

WA makes up just 5.6 per cent of total upgrades, the lowest of any mainland State.

It is only ahead of Tasmania, eight upgrades, and both Territories.

They can include such as solar and battery storage, double-glazing, EV chargers, and solar hot water systems.

Of the $1 billion fund, $400 million has so far been made available, with an equal $400 million contributed by the private lenders such as Commonwealth Bank, Plico and Westpac.

The number of households accessing the fund has tripled since July 2025 with the launch of the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which discounts 30 per cent on the upfront cost of installing a small-scale battery system.

Assistant Climate Change and Energy Minister Josh Wilson said overall, uptake had been good.

“This important milestone with the HEUF shows that Australians have a real appetite for making their homes more sustainable and more efficient with reliable, renewable, and low-emission technologies.

“Just in the last quarter of 2025, we saw the number of HEUF loans almost double with homeowners take control of their energy use to slash their energy bills while decarbonising our housing sector.
