VideoFormer Melbourne Demons AFL player Steven May has revealed he suffered a mental breakdown before retiring from football.

Fremantle and West Coast will clash in a Friday night western derby for the first time in more than two decades when they meet at Optus Stadium on July 24.

It will be only the second time in the historic rivalry that the two sides will meet in the primetime slot, but it will be part of an AFL double-header, with Sydney hosting the Western Bulldogs at the SCG on the same night.

The only other time the Dockers - who have adopted the name Walyalup for Sir Doug Nicholls Rounds - and the Eagles (Waalitj Marawar) clashed on a Friday night was in 2005, with the Eagles claiming a 48-point win on the back of a Daniel Kerr masterclass.

The round 20 game is one of two Friday night slots for the lowly Eagles as part of the AFL’s fixture release for rounds 16 to 22.

They will host Adelaide at Optus Stadium as part of history and heritage round on July 3.

Outside of that, the Eagles’ on-field woes have resulted in a series of off-Broadway time slots, starting with their round 16 clash against Carlton being on Saturday morning (WA time) from 11.15am on Saturday, June 27.

They also have three more Sunday clashes in round 18 against the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium, round 21 against Richmond at the MCG and the following week against Collingwood at Optus Stadium.

However, they have landed a Saturday night clash against dual reigning premiers Brisbane in round 19 at Optus Stadium starting from 6.10pm.

As revealed by The West Australian, the Dockers’ home clash against ladder-leaders Sydney will be played on a standalone Thursday night at Optus Stadium in round 18.

The Dockers have become prominent primetime components of the final portion of the season, with two Friday night clashes and the Thursday night game against the Swans as part of the six rounds.

They will not only host the Eagles on a Friday night, but also the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium on July 31 as part of round 21.

Justin Longmuir’s side have a tough start to the block, having a six-day break after they host God Coast on Sunday, June 28 before going to Canberra to take on GWS. The Dockers then have only five days before they take on Sydney.

Flourish

The Dockers’ clash against the Swans will be their Starlight Purple Haze Game, while they will take on the Suns in the AFL’s Cultural Heritage Round.

Longmuir said the Dockers deserved to be a prime time favourite given their form, style of game and fan base.

“We are not far off the top of the ladder, we’re playing an exciting brand that people like to watch. Our fans turn up no matter where we’re playing and create a good atmosphere. I’m sure the broadcasters like that,” he said.

“You get what you deserve in this game, so ... more Thursday and Friday night games? We deserve it.”

The fixtures for the final two rounds of the season are set to be confirmed later in the year.

All Dockers and Eagles games are live and free through 7 channels and 7plus from round eight onwards.
