Jordan Clark has denied reports he hung up on Geelong’s list manager after a heated phone call.

The WA youngster, who wants to get to Fremantle this trade period, remains in limbo with one-year still to run on his deal at the Cats.

With Geelong demanding Fremantle’s pick 19 or their pick 22 and a future third round selection, the Dockers have so far refused to budge to meet the Cats’ request.

Reports emerged on Wednesday that Clark got on the front foot to tell Cats list manager Stephen Wells he “wasn’t coming back” if a deal could not be done by today’s trade deadline.

But Clark has quick to put the rumour to bed.

“The media take things out of context a fair bit, so don’t believe everything you read,” he posted on social media.

“Not once did the phone call get heated nor did I hang up.”

Wells also denied Edmund’s claims.

“Just simply, it didn’t happen,” he said on Trade Radio.

“Jordan and I had a conversation but there was nothing tense about it. Nothing heated.”

SEN journalist Sam Edmund had earlier claimed Clark’s message to the Cats was clear.

“Jordan Clark told Stephen Wells in no uncertain terms, ‘I want this deal done’. Words to the effect of, ‘I’m not coming back. I’m desperate to get to Fremantle. Please make this deal happen’,” Edmund reported on SEN.

“To which Stephen Wells responded, again with words to the effect of, ‘If we can find a deal suitable for both parties, then we will orchestrate a trade. If we can’t, then you are contracted here and you will be coming back to Geelong’.

“I’m told that shortly thereafter Jordan Clark hung up on Stephen Wells.”

Clark remains in Perth as the trade standoff continues.

He has already met with Dockers coach Justin Longmuir and has a four-year deal on the table to join Fremantle.

Geelong’s footy boss Steve Hocking said the ball was firmly in Fremantle’s court if they wanted to secure Clark’s services.

“He’s a contracted player and we want Jordan to be here. Jordan understands that he’s a required player and its over to Fremantle from here,” Hocking said.

“If they want him, then they need to cough up.”

The AFL Trade Period closes at 4.30pm on Wednesday.
