Sacked Carlton coach David Teague didn’t stay unemployed for long, joining rival AFL club Richmond as an assistant under triple premiership mentor Damien Hardwick.

Teague was axed by the Blues last month after an external review of their underperforming football department.

The 40-year-old had a 42 per cent winning record in two-and-a-half years as senior coach, having taken over in 2019 when Brendon Bolton departed.

Richmond will be Teague’s fifth stop as an assistant coach at AFL level after he worked in similar roles with West Coast, St Kilda, Adelaide and Carlton.

“Coaching is my passion and I am excited by the opportunity to get to work with a new group of players and at a new club,” Teague said.

“I am looking forward to getting to work this pre-season and embracing the challenge that we all have, to climb the Tigers back up the ladder in 2022.

“It is great to be involved.”

Teague’s former assistant Cameron Bruce is also on the move as the coaching dominoes continue to fall.

Bruce’s decision to join Brisbane means there are no members of Teague’s full-time coaching staff left at the club as the Blues still hunt for a new head coach.

Bruce will reunite with Chris Fagan at Brisbane after the pair worked together with Clarkson during the Hawks’ hat-trick of premierships from 2013 to 2015.

The 41-year-old will coach the Lions’ midfield group under Fagan.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to team up with Fages again and to work with a group that is really contending,’” Bruce said.

“It is an opportunity to go on an adventure with my family who are all very excited about what lies ahead.

“I have a real passion for the caper and helping players get the most out of their careers and I am looking forward to getting up there (to Brisbane) and doing what I can to help this group continue to improve.”

Michael Voss is now the reported frontrunner for the vacant Blues role, if Alastair Clarkson can’t be lured out of a well-deserved break.
