Greater Western Sydney have taken a cheeky return dig at The West Australian in the wake of their 65-point win over West Coast.

They wasted little time after the victory on Sunday evening, mocking up an altered version of Friday’s back page for their social media that labelled four West Australians plying their trade in orange as “traitors”.

Sam Taylor, Stephen Coniglio, Toby Bedford and Jesse Hogan were photoshopped wearing hooded orange clocks emerging from a murky background with the caption “unfaithful West Australians set for giant homecoming” as a tongue-in-cheek dig that they had found success away from their home State.

The Giants’ attempt at a back page replaced the artwork with a photo of their quintet of West Aussies with towels on their heads and giant smirks immediately after their win.

Their headline simply stated “HA HA HA”, signalling they felt they had had the last laugh.

GWS head coach Adam Kingsley laughed off the original back page at a press conference on Friday.

“That’s their passion, and so they’ll try to unsettle us as best as they can, whether that’s in the paper, with the crowd, or whenever it is,” Kingsley said in response.

“They’re passionate supporters over there, and they love their teams, so they’ll do whatever it takes to try to help them.

“So we have no issues with it.”
