The WA community football tribunal has handed a six-year ban to a year 10 player who struck an umpire during a match last Sunday.

In a release put out by the Western Australian Football Commission the player was found guilty of three charges including a two-match penalty for using abusive language towards an umpire and a one-match ban for disputing an umpire’s decision.

His third charge for “striking an umpire” rules the youngster out from playing any official footy at any level until his early 20s.

“The West Australian Football Commission and the player’s club will support the player to seek counselling services, as well as continuing to provide support to the umpire,” the release stated.

“The WAFC reiterates that any form of umpire abuse is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

“Umpires play a critical role in our game and have helped make the 2020 season possible for which we are extremely grateful.”
