Peel Thunder product Jaide Britton has strengthened her AFLW draft claims, taking out the two-kilometre time trial at WA’s State-based combine on Thursday night.

Nine draft hopefuls — Abbygail Bushby (Swan Districts), Lauren Wakfer (South Fremantle), Ella Roberts and Jaide Britton (all Peel Thunder) and Ella Smith, Emily Elkington and Sasha Goranova (all Claremont) — were all invited to complete the rigorous endurance test at WA Athletics Stadium.

Claremont’s Madeleine Scanlon and Peel’s Bella Mann were also invited to the combine but didn’t test.

Under the watchful eye of West Coast and Fremantle recruiting staff, Britton, gave a fine account of her endurance, crossing the finish line in just under eight minutes.

The midfielder has been one of Peel’s most consistent players this year, averaging just under 16 touches a game this season.

Goranova and Smith rounded out the top three.

WAFC Talent Program Specialist Elly Lambkin said the combine allowed draft prospects to showcase their athletic ability.

“The results for the day will be important when it comes to a player’s endurance and physical capabilities but playing good footy in the WAFLW remains the most important element ahead of Draft day,” Lambkin said.

“This time of the year is always an exciting time for players, and it’s good to see the hard work they’ve put in over the years on display at the combine.”

Currently, wooden spooners West Coast will have first crack at the WA talent pool and have seven list spots to fill.

Fremantle currently have five list spots available.

The reduction in testing at this year’s combine takes into consideration changes to AFLW timelines, along with the significant amount of pre-season testing which was conducted earlier this year.

The AFLW draft is scheduled on June 29 with the season to start in August.

This year’s NAB AFLW Draft Combine is being held across 10 locations, with more than 100 players invited to attend.
