Giddey lights up LA as free-falling Bulls beaten again

Another day, another regular-season Josh Giddey double-double and another Chicago defeat as their push for the NBA playoffs continues to go in reverse.
Just days after recording his 28th career triple-double, the Australian guard tallied 27 points, eight rebounds and 15 assists for double-double number 107 in just his fifth NBA season.
The 23-year-old's performance wasn't enough to get the Bulls over the line in Los Angeles though, going down 142-130 to the Lakers on Thursday (Friday AEDT).
Luka Doncic had 51 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists for the home side, while Austin Reaves chipped in with 30 points.
LA (41-25) moved into third place in the Western Conference, while Chicago (27-39), who have alternated wins and losses over their past six games following 11 straight losses, sit 12th in the East.
In Atlanta, Jock Landale flew the Aussie flag to help the hometown Hawks extend the league's longest current winning streak to eight games, beating Brooklyn 108-97.
With compatriot Dyson Daniels (toe) missing, Landale contributed four points and two rebounds from his 13 minutes on court.
Jalen Johnson led the way for the hosts with 21 points, nine rebounds and nine assists to help Atlanta (35-31) up to eighth in the East.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander broke Wilt Chamberlain's record for consecutive games with 20 points or more, scoring 35 in Oklahoma City's 104-102 win over Boston.
Gilgeous-Alexander has scored at least 20 in 127 consecutive matches, topping Chamberlain's mark that had stood since 1963.
The Thunder guard also finished with nine assists and six rebounds as the defending champions and league-best OKC won their seventh straight to go 52-15.
Jaylen Brown scored 34 points for the Celtics (43-23), the 2024 champions, who are second in the East.
Nikola Jokic had 31 points, 20 rebounds and 12 assists, Jamal Murray scored 39 points and Denver rallied to beat West rivals San Antonio 136-131, snapping the Spurs' (48-18) five-game winning streak.
After trailing by 20 early in the third, Murray's three-pointer gave the Nuggets (41-26) their first lead with 4:38 remaining.
Elsewhere, the East-leading Pistons beat Philadelphia 131-109 in Detroit, while Bam Adebayo scored 21 points in the first outing after his 83-point performance as Miami beat Milwaukee 112-105 for their season-best seventh consecutive victory.
The Heat (38-29) remain No.6 in the East, behind Orlando (37-28) who have won six straight after downing Washington 136-131.
Khris Middleton had a season-high 35 points and Dallas snapped an eight-game losing steak with a 120-112 win in Memphis, while Phoenix beat NBA-worst Indiana 123-108 for their fourth straight win and the Pacers' 11th loss in a row.
