NBL1 West 2022: Slammers women’s team aim to rebound from forgettable night

South West Slammers women’s coach Robyn Vogel was flat following her side’s disappointing 84-70 home loss against the Kalamunda Eastern Suns. With key recruits Alex Ciabattoni and American import Tylinn both back together on the floor, the Slammers had high hopes of recording their second win in three years. Unfortunately for Vogel, her side failed to fire, with a lack of penetration to the basket glaringly obvious against the Eastern Suns, despite their foul woes. “We trained hard and had been working together so well in generating our plays,” Vogel said. “And then (on Saturday) it seemed to all fall apart. “It did not seem like they gelled. I do not know if they thought we were going to win it, but they did not come out hard enough basically. “There were glimpses where we put some good plays together, however, we were not able to hold it for long enough. Maybe we did not want it bad enough? I do not know. “Our consistency is something we need to work on.” Unlike their male counterparts, the women’s team will not play the Lakeside Lightning on Friday night, however, they are in action a night later away to the high-octane Warwick Senators.
