Ryan Daniels understands its never too early to get on the front foot - whether he’s preparing to call a game of football, read the news or take part in a fun run.

The Channel 7 sports presenter, his two children Avery (9), William (7), and wife Kelly will be among the many hitting the ground running when this year’s Chevron City to Surf rolls around on August 30.

“I love running - it’s so good for your physical and mental health,” Daniels said. “This year I’m aiming to run 100km a month, every month.”

The regular runner said the City To Surf’s shorter 4km option is a fun way to get out and about with family, and with nominations now open, he’s urging others to do likewise.

It doesn’t hurt that both his children say they are also keen runners.

“I like the exercise and hanging out with Dad,” William said. “And we did it last year so I’m excited to race again.”

The City to Surf raises money for people living with disability and is the longest-running event of its type in WA.

It is put on by and for the charity genU, formerly known as Activ.

Last year, more than 29,000 people ran, walked, or rolled the 4km or traditional 12km route that begins in Perth and ends with a carnival at City Beach, complete with live music, rides, food trucks and medallions for every participant.
