Fremantle forward Jye Amiss should have won the Glendinning-Allan Medal during Sunday’s western derby according to both coaches, with Justin Longmuir and Andrew McQualter voting him as best on ground in the AFL Coaches’ Association award.
Amiss kicked 5.4 and took a club record nine marks inside 50 during Fremantle’s 56-point win. He finished runner-up in the Glendinning-Allan Medal behind Jordan Clark. The award was voted on by Shaun McManus, Xavier Ellis and Mitchell Woodcock.
It is the first time since 2014 that the two coaches have unanimously voted a player as best on ground where he didn’t win the medal.
Ross Lyon and Adam Simpson voted Aaron Sandilands as the game’s best player in round seven that year, but Lachie Neale won the medal after collecting 32 disposals and kicking one goal. Neale also received the three Brownlow Medal votes.
Clark had a huge day with 27 disposals, one goal and 629 metres gained.
But both Longmuir and McQualter voted him as the second-best player on the field behind Amiss.

They had Murphy Reid in third place followed by Reuben Ginbey, Caleb Serong and then Heath Chapman and Luke Ryan were tied for sixth.
Amiss has had a big three weeks. He kicked four goals during Fremantle’s win over Adelaide, booted a clutch set shot goal against Collingwood the following week as wind and rain buffeted Adelaide Oval during Gather Round and then kicked five goals against the Eagles.
Amiss has now overtaken Josh Treacy as Fremantle’s leading goal kicker this season with 14 majors. He is in equal seventh place for the Coleman Medal.

The Dockers will be hoping he continues his strong form as the club looks to build on its emphatic 5-1 start to the season. Fremantle’s next game is at Optus Stadium against Carlton on Saturday night.
