Fremantle’s Shai Bolton raised eyebrows on Tuesday after training with a protective glove, but it’s all part of the plan for the Dockers superstar.

Bolton was a surprise member of the rehab group at training, sporting the pink no-contact hat while also having his hand protected and looked at during the session.

However, the club has revealed there are no concerns for the two-time premiership winner, saying they are managing his loads following an increased workload this season.

The 27-year-old has moved to a predominantly midfield role this season, spending nearly 70 per cent of his game time around the ball.

It’s a move that has had stunning results with Bolton, the highest-rated player in the competition between rounds 7-11 for his impact as both a midfielder and forward.

He has been a key part of Fremantle’s success this season and produced career-best numbers after an indifferent start to life at the Dockers, averaging more than 24 disposals, four clearances and a goal a game in 2026.

While it has also resulted in an increased workload, the Dockers are taking every precaution to ensure he can keep delivering until the end of the season.
