Fremantle already boast the best ruck stable in the competition, but the Dockers are ensuring there’s still plenty more to come with a new deal for an emerging talent.
Claremont product Aiden Riddle has signed a two-year contract extension which will keep him in purple until 2028, having put together his best season at state level.
The 20-year-old was taken with pick No.7 in the 2024 Rookie Draft and has spent his time working on his craft at WAFL level with Peel Thunder.
“Aiden absolutely jumped at his chance to get on our list, and we couldn’t be happier with how he has grasped his opportunity,” list manager David Walls said.
“He’s really dedicated himself to improving, has put on size, gotten stronger and is working really closely with ruck coach Sam Naismith to develop his craft.”
Fremantle added premiership winner Mason Cox to back up Luke Jackson and Sean Darcy over the off-season, meaning the Dockers can take their time with Riddle’s development.
The signs have been promising this year, averaging career-best disposals and marks while winning more than 21 hit-outs per game across his eight league appearances this season.
Walls said Riddle remains firmly in the club’s future plans.
“He’s splitting his time as a forward, kicking 10 goals across 16 league appearances, and has assumed the main ruck duties at times when required at Peel.
“We have good depth across our ruck department with Luke Jackson, Sean Darcy and Mason Cox - three guys that have a lot of AFL experience - so for Aiden to be able to continue to build and develop under those guys will be really advantageous for him going forward.
“We are really happy to have Riddle extend his time for another two years and look forward to what the future holds for him.”
