Fremantle has been dealt a brutal early blow in the western derby, with forward Jye Amiss substituted out of the game with concussion inside the opening minutes.

Amiss copped a Jeremy McGovern knee to the head in a two-on-one marking contest on the goal-line.

He spent a moment on his haunches before stumbling as he ran back towards the play.

Teammate Michael Walters had to urge the disorientated Amiss to get off the ground, ushering him towards a trainer.

The 20-year-old was assessed by club doctors before being ruled out of further action, with Neil Erasmus substituted into the match before the 10-minute mark of the opening term.

It resulted in a shake-up for Fremantle’s forward structure, with returning ruckman Sean Darcy taking on an increased role inside 50.

Amiss has missed just one of Fremantle’s past 30 matches since entrenching himself in the side in the 2022 finals series.

Concussion protocols mean Amiss will miss next Saturday night’s clash with Western Bulldogs. He has kicked 12 goals this season and four in his most recent clash with the Eagles.

West Coast’s Elliot Yeo kicked the first goal of the derby before a Harley Reid hanger gave the Eagles a second before Fremantle were on the board.
