Star WA greyhound Tommy Shelby created history with a brilliant win in the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg Final at Wentworth Park last night.

Starting the $3.50 second favourite, Tommy Shelby started brilliantly from box eight to lead and shrugged off a determined challenge from the $2.70 elect, Wow, to score by 1 1/2 lengths.

The Steve Withers-trained dog became Australian greyhound racing’s eighth $1 million earner after taking home the $250,000 prize.

“He’s come out running tonight and when he comes out running, he’s a very hard dog to beat,” Withers said.

“When the boxes opened and he wasn’t a length behind them, you feel happy and then at the corner, not too many dogs can run him down.

“He’s had to do it (winning $1 million) from a lot of bad boxes.”

Tommy Shelby, who was crowned WA Greyhound of the Year last month, scored his third Group 1 win and boosted his record to 29 wins from 44 starts.
