Sasha Glasgow has endured a nightmare start to life at her new Super Netball club, with the former West Coast Fever shooter suffering a broken leg that caused a practice match to be abandoned.

Glasgow joined the Melbourne Mavericks over the off-season after three seasons in WA, with the 25-year-old set to be a key part of the club’s debut season.

But a lower leg fracture halted play in Saturday night’s scratch match against Sunshine Coast, with privacy screens quickly erected around Glasgow as medical staff attended to her.

After Glasgow left the court, the match was called off.

“Our thoughts and wishes with Sasha today after such a cruel and painful injury,” said Craig Hutchison, who is chief executive of the SEN group that owns the Mavericks.

“Thanks everyone for their support and care. Sasha is stoic and we will miss her on court but can’t wait to have her back around the group and a big part of the journey ahead.”

England representative Glasgow is one of two international players on the Mavericks roster, alongside compatriot Eleanor Cardwell, and had only just returned to Australia after competing at the Netball Nations Cup.
