WA Netball League 2024: Roar continue to steamroll league as Comets fire late

The Western Roar have continued to steamroll the competition with an emphatic 30-goal victory over Peel Lightning to remain unbeaten after 11 games.

Without West Coast Fever training partners Zoe Cransberg and Emma Putt, the Roar humbled the Lightning with a 15-4 second quarter to extend their monster streak.

Roar’s goal shooter Sophia Lamers was unstoppable again, receiving plenty of supply from midcourters Cleo Kenny (centre) and Brittany Turnbull (wing attack), who were confident to let the ball go.

Peel fought hard and while they came out of half time strongly, they were ultimately ground down by the full-court pressure of the ladder leaders.

Reigning premiers Hamersley Comets sealed a 49-40 goal victory over West Coast Warriors in a close tussle as they continue their title defence.

With just one goal separating the teams at three quarter time the Comets put their foot down to take the final quarter 15-7 and secure the win.

Warriors goal shooter Jamaica Jauncey top scored with 32 goals and received close attention in the circle from Comets’ goal keeper and younger sister Scarlet Jauncey.

Fever premiership player Emma Cosh demonstrated her ability to stay calm under pressure, shooting 25 goals and combining seamlessly with captain Lindal Rhode.

Southside Demons have reclaimed fourth place on the ladder with a 65-38 thumping of Southwest Jets in Waroona.

The Jets had a confident start on their home court keeping pace and trading goals with the Demons to tie the first quarter.

The Demons’ defensive pressure of Chanel Gomes (goal defence) and Emily Hathaway (wing defence) created chaos across the Jets’ attacking line which was quickly converted for a 12-goal lead at half time.

Jets goal shooter Grace Millichamp made her open debut, coming on in third quarter, and was joined in the circle by Annie Chomley in the final quarter.

The 27-goal final margin was a handy boost for the Demons who sit on equal points with Rangers and Warriors, but lead by percentage.

The return of injured Sharks shooter Georgie Cleaver inspired her side as they hung on for a four-goal win over a fast-finishing Rangers.

Her 17-goal haul proved to be the difference coming on at half time to into goal attack and allowed Sophie Eastaugh to drop back into the circle.

The Sharks were forced to use two different defenders in an attempt to shut down Rangers shooter Abbey Hicks, who scored a season-high 43 goals.

The Rangers came home strong, outscoring the Sharks by five goals in the final quarter, but fell short finishing 57-53
