England have taken full control of the last Ashes Test after a dominant effort with the bat on day three.

They made batting look easy as the Aussie quicks toiled away.

Mitchell Starc and Todd Murphy got rewarded late, but the visitors will need to break records if they want to win this match from here.

But early wickets and the visitors could complete their Ashes triumph by the end of the day.

Recap the action from our blog.

Goodnight!

England will be full of confidence after another great day for the hosts but there is still plenty of time and the wicket is flat.

Three big partnerships is all Australia need to make it game on.

Join us again at 5.30pm for day four at The Oval.

Sorry tactics

Stumps

Another very poor day for Australia and their hopes are slim.

They will likely have two full days to chase with England probably going to declare overnight but will need a mammoth 378.

Tactics bad, bowlers off line and when they did get it right it was to late.

A lot of work ahead for Australia.

Final over

Anderson smited Murphy for two boundaries in the final over of the day to bring the crowd to their feet.

He tried a reverse sweep next ball and was given out LBW when struck on the arm but a review says the ball is bouncing over.

Wood slogs out

Todd Murphy gets another as Wood tries to hoik him into the leg side.

Easy catch for Mitch Marsh at cow corner.

Ali goes

Moeen Ali finally falls to a bouncer.

Starc got one at his throat and he ramps it to the man at deep third-man.

That’s Starc’s fourth wicket.

Out this time!

Chris Woakes has hit the ball straight to Usman Khawaja at mid-off.

Perfect catching height and he makes no mistake.

Good reward for Mitch Starc.

Close but no cigar

Chris Woakes survives an LBW review by the skin of his teeth.

Murphy got a ball to turn back into his pads but ball tracking says it would have hit the stumps by slightly less than half a ball.

Just enough for it to remain with the umpire’s call of not out.
