The next step in Quillan Salkilld’s quest to become WA’s second-ever UFC champion has been revealed, with the superstar to main event in Australia for the first time against fellow top-10 lightweight Benoit Saint Denis.
Salkilld (13-1) has been booked at the top of the card for his second consecutive fight, with a win over the Frenchman dubbed “The God of War” almost certain to put him into the top five of the rankings.
The 26-year-old fan favourite has won all six of his fights in the promotion since he earned a contract through the Dana White Contender Series in September of 2024.
He most recently beat Mateusz Gamrot by rear-naked choke in his first-ever main event in August, but now gets the chance to take centre stage at Afterpay Arena on Sunday, February 7.
Saint Denis (17-4) was on a four-fight win streak before Paddy Pimblett submitted him in July, but is still ranked No.7 in the lightweight division, only one spot behind Salkilld.
“UFC Fight Night Sydney is set to be another huge moment for Australian fans, and Quillan Salkilld versus Benoît Saint Denis is a main event that delivers everything we look for in this sport,” UFC senior vice president of Australia and New Zealand Peter Kloczko said.
“Quillan has been one of the breakout stars of the UFC’s lightweight division, while Benoît is one of the most dangerous and exciting finishers in the sport. Bringing this fight to Sydney will make for an unforgettable night.
“We are proud to return to Sydney and grateful for the continued support of Destination NSW and the NSW Government. UFC Fight Night Sydney will showcase world-class athletes, create an incredible experience for fans and further strengthen New South Wales’ position as a leading destination for major sporting events.”
Salkilld has made it no secret that he wants to join former welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena as a West Australian fighter to hold a UFC belt.
