Reigning Perth fairest and best Corey Bryne has been sensationally suspended for pushing a Claremont runner in the Demons’ fiery clash with the Tigers at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday.

Bryne was charged with engaging in misconduct after pushing the runner during a melee in the second quarter and received a week suspension because it was his third low-level offence within a 12-month period.

The 25-year-old also received a one-match suspension for engaging in the melee, with four of his teammates reprimanded for the same incident.

Claremont’s Anthony Davis was suspended for being in the melee because it was his fourth offence in the past 12 months, while six other Tigers were reprimanded.

The melee started after Perth forward Sam Stubbs retaliated to a bump to the back from Claremont Sandover medallist Bailey Rogers, with the forward reprimanded for striking after hitting him in the body inside the Demons’ forward 50.

About 12 players were part of the melee, with Byrne seen pushing a Tigers runner who got too close to the action.

It means the Demons will be without Byrne for their must-win clash against cellar-dwellers West Coast at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday.

It is not known how many AFL-listed players the Eagles will have at their disposal as the season comes to a close.

Star ruckman Nic Naitanui and forward Jake Waterman have been put on ice for their final clash with Geelong because of knee injuries, meaning Bailey Williams is likely to be called upon from the WAFL side.

Williams was one of five Eagles to play in their 85-point loss to Swan Districts, which was marred by a one-goal effort in four quarters, as well as conceding 13 consecutive majors.

The Eagles could recall Tim Kelly and Jai Culley from suspension while rebounding defender Jamaine Jones is listed as a test because of a back injury.

It is not known if forward Willie Rioli, who returned from the Tiwi Islands this week after the funeral of his father, will make the trip to Geelong.

Nearly a dozen Eagles are listed as out for the rest of the season, limiting their playing stocks for the remaining three WAFl games.
