West Coast rookie hopeful Luke Strnadica will be sidelined for at least the next fortnight after sustaining a foot injury at training.

The West Australian understands the giant East Fremantle ruck-forward suffered a partial tear in his plantar fascia during a recent Eagles match simulation session at Mineral Resources Park.

Strnadica is currently in a moon boot, with his injury timeline to be reassessed in a couple of weeks.

It comes as terrible timing with West Coast desperately low on talls and key forward Jack Darling’s career hanging in the balance after his anti-vaccination status.

The 23-year-old has been training at West Coast since early December in a bid to earn one of two vacant spot on their list through the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP).

The Game AFL 2024

The former Fremantle Docker was one of several WAFL players invited to train at the club during the pre-season.

East Perth tough nut Kade Dittmar’s training block has finished, ex-Brisbane Lion turned Sharks recruit Tom Joyce and Claremont product Logan Young recently started and South Fremantle pair Tom Blechynden and Toby McQuilkin are expected to commence next month.

Two free spots could become three if Darling opts not to get vaccinated by the start of the season like ex-Carlton swingman Liam Jones who retired because of it.

Clubs have until March 9 to sign players up in the SSP period with plenty of West Aussies in the mix interstate including Subiaco premiership forward Nic Martin (Essendon) and East Fremantle tall Josh Cripps (Carlton).
