Super Netball 2026: West Coast Fever shooter Romelda Aiken-George to become second player to reach 250 games

West Coast Fever shooter Romelda Aiken-George will become only the second player to turn out for 250 Australian domestic games when she hits the court to take on the Queensland Firebirds at RAC Arena on Sunday. Aiken-George will join Diamonds’ great Catherine Cox (254 games) as the only players to reach the incredible milestone, which includes matches across Super Netball, the ANZ Championship, and the Commonwealth Bank Trophy. The Jamaican shooter will play just her fifth game for Fever after being pulled out of retirement to replace pregnant countrywoman Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard. Aiken-George is one of the most decorated players in Australian domestic netball, having won four premierships and three league MVPs. She has previously played for Firebirds, NSW Swifts, and the Adelaide Thunderbirds. Fever coach Dan Ryan said the 37-year-old’s drive to improve at this late stage of her career had inspired teammates as the club looked to claim a second premiership. “Romelda’s been outstanding and last week to post a personal best of 67 goals is just amazing for where she’s at in her career,” he told The West Australian. “Her inner hunger to want to get better and improve her craft is really inspirational for all players. “She’s been adding great value to us on and off the court in our team and our environment. Hopefully, we can get many more great games out of her across the course of the season.” Aiken-George is proving to be a handful for defenders despite coming towards the end of her decorated career, scoring a personal-best 67 goals in the 20-goal win against the Swifts last weekend. She had scored 202 goals headed into the round, second only to Thunderbirds superstar recruit Elmere van der Berg (206). Ryan said Fever had to use different skills to ensure Aiken-George was at her potent best in their goal circle. “From our perspective, they’re different players, and while they’re both tall post-up shooters, the nuances in their game are very different,” he said. “What Romelda is providing for us is a real need to have alternate ways through which we access the circle, and alternate ways in how we work the circle, and some of our methodologies and principles in attack have shifted as well. “It’s a healthy position for a team to have to learn to adapt and do things slightly differently while still having some continuity of familiar structures and patterns that sit within our game. “What we’re seeing over the last couple of weeks has been a lot of work in the pre-season to integrate the new combinations, so while we’re able to play quite direct at different times as well, we’re having to find new avenues to goal to maximise who we have on the court. “They’re different players, but the weaponry of having the target goal shooter is very suited to how we like to craft out our games, and in that regard, it’s been a seamless transition, but it’s also forced us to develop different skills in our playing group we haven’t had to tap into previously.” Romelda Aiken-George Age: 37 Games: 249 (Queensland Firebirds 2008–2022, NSW Swifts 2023, Adelaide Thunderbirds 2024–2025) Debut: 2008 Goals: 9,526 Premierships: 2011, 2015, 2016, 2024 League MVP: 2008, 2009, 2015
