Australian tourist dies after falling from cliff in Nusa Penida, near Bali

An Australian woman has died after falling from a cliff at a popular beach in Nusa Penida, near Bali, on Saturday morning.

A local lifeguard told authorities a tourist had alerted him to someone stranded on the southern cliff face along Kelingking beach, about 20km off the south-eastern coast of the main island of Bali.

As the lifeguard verified the report and called for assistance, the 29-year-old woman fell to the shoreline below.

Emergency services, including officers from the Nusa Penida Sector Police and the Nusa Penida Search and Rescue team, launched an evacuation operation.

Authorities reported she had died from the fall, suffering multiple fractures to her left arm and leg, as well as numerous lacerations.

She was taken by ambulance to Griya Medica Clinic in Banjar Nyuh, Ped Village.

The woman is expected to be transferred to another regional hospital before arrangements are made with the Australian Embassy.

She was reportedly staying at a hostel in Ped Village on the island.

The circumstances surrounding the fall have not been fully established and remain under investigation by Indonesian authorities.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade was contacted for comment.
