Don’t miss our glossy Luxury Travel Magazine in The West Australian on Monday.

We dip into classic luxury travel, but also look at more contemporary concepts — the luxury of having quality experiences and a little learning as we journey.

Luxury travel is the fastest-growing segment of the tourism industry. Companies specialising in selling luxury travel are booming. The list of luxury hotels under construction, or due to open fairly soon, is huge.

Flatbed flying, personal butlers, private villas, infinity pools and high-end wellness treatments are intrinsic to luxury travel, along with the price tags attached to them.

Exclusivity and privacy are at the core. Relaxation and adventure are key ingredients.

But what is perceived as “luxury travel” is also changing. The big demand is for more meaningful experiences. These are now as intrinsic to luxury travel as that infinity pool.

This big attitudinal shift changes travel from being what we might call a “leisure activity” to being an exercise in learning and personal growth. Instead of allocating income to material goods, luxury travellers are seeking high-quality, expansive, immersive and memorable experiences.

In Luxury Travel Magazine…

+ Business class has become “Holiday Class” in the air, as holidaymakers outnumber corporate travellers in business class in the UK – and some airlines are responding by cutting the lavish perks.

+ Where celebrities find a little bliss. Serena Williams finds her R&R in northern Italy, Beyonce and Jay-Z head to San Tropez. Rebel Wilson has filled her Instagram account with comments praising Iceland, and particularly the Blue Lagoon. And in Istanbul, Sting might meet Madonna, and Naomi Campbell might bump into Justin Timberlake.

+ Sumptuous-on-sea. Luxury brands are making a splash in ocean cruising, writes our award-winning writer Michael Ferrante. While multinational resort brands are venturing into luxe ocean cruising with superyachts, established cruise lines have branched out, too.

+ We stay in London’s first (and amazing) “mission-driven” sustainable luxury hotel.

+ And the Travel Team reveals three luxury items to travel with. (You might be surprised!)
