France still holds premier position

France is still the most visited country in the world.

The French Ministry for Tourism has released its tourism report for 2025, showing that the country welcomed 102 million international visitors (up 2 million over the previous year).

The country not only remains the global leader in tourism, but the report also sets out the country’s ambition to become the world’s leading sustainable tourism destination by 2030.

+ According to the French ministry, France continues to attract big numbers of European visitors, particularly from Italy, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands.

+ There was a significant increase in German visitors — up nine per cent compared with the previous year.

+ North American visitor numbers rose sharply, with arrivals from the US up by more than 10 per cent.

“France is a great tourism nation,” says Serge Papin, Minister for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Trade, Crafts, Tourism and Consumer Affairs.

“Let us be proud of it, and above all, let us remain so.”

+ The report also shows that international tourism revenue rose by nine per cent, year-on-year, to $126.5 billion (€77.5b).

+ Average spend per international visitor increased to $1240 (€760) per stay.
