Hyrox & holidays

It’s estimated 1.3 million people will compete in a Hyrox fitness event somewhere in the world in 2026.
Someone hooked on it could build their holidays around Hyrox and compete in 20 races in six countries throughout the year.
Of course, most readers at this point will be wondering what Hyrox is. It’s a global indoor fitness race that combines 8km of running with eight workout stations.
Participants complete:
+ A 1km run, followed by 1000m SkiErg — a ski ergometer is a fitness machine that simulates the motion of Nordic skiing.
+ Then there’s a 50m sled push and 50m sled pull.
+ They are followed by 80m of burpee broad jumps — chest on floor, step up to a crouch and jump, then repeat, and repeat…
+ After a 1000m row there’s a 200m farmer’s carry — carrying two kettlebells over 200m.
+ Competitors then complete 100m of sandbag lunges — a walking lunge with a sandbag of 10kg-30kg on the shoulders.
+ Finally, there’s the demanding final discipline, wall ball — 100 repetitions of squatting and throwing a medicine ball at a target.
In Australia alone in 2025, Hyrox events were held in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Another regional event was held in Auckland, New Zealand.
Events include training under perfect conditions, “fuelling the body with nutrition designed to support your goals and recover with expert care”, and being able to take part in classes and attend panel talks. And, of course, being with like-minded people.
Hyrox Australia packages up events as “the ultimate fitness vacation”.

HYROX AT SEA
This year, Hyrox Experiences has the world’s first Hyrox cruise.
It is a four-night, full-ship charter with TUI Cruises in the Mediterranean, and Hyrox Experiences is handling the itinerary planning, operations and marketing of the charter cruise.
It says the cruise redefines “fitness travel at sea”.
Travellers can train with world-class coaches, connect with the Hyrox community, fuel up with performance-focused nutrition, and recover in the Med.
There will be more than 350 hours of expert-led training over the four days.
The cruise is from Palma de Mallorca (on the island of Mallorca, and an autonomous part of Spain) to Marseille (France) and Barcelona (Spain), before returning to Palma.
The voyage is on the ship Mein Schiff 4, which can take up to 2500 passengers.
An inside cabin with up to two people is $4430 (€2599) .
A basic balcony cabin is $5450 (€2599).
Cabin prices are based on double occupancy (two adults). If a person books the cabin alone, the full price must still be paid.

HYROX IN ASIA
At the southern end of Koh Samui in Thailand, Lamai Fitness Retreat has added Hyrox to its fitness and wellness menu.
Hyrox Koh Samui spaces out the training over the days a guest spends on the island.
A spokesperson says: “We follow all the precepts of Hyrox. We include every exercise that Hyrox requires.
“For example, when guests train with us, they will be practising sled pushes and wall balls and learning the best techniques so as to be able to perform at their best.
“We prioritise adequate rest and recovery along with proper diet.”
