SpongeBob goes to sea!

Royal Caribbean announced on Tuesday The SpongeBob Musical will be staged on its ship Hero of the Seas.

The massive cruise ship, which can carry up to 5654 passengers at double occupancy, is the fourth in its Icon Class, and will set sail from Miami in August 2027.

And SpongeBob will be on board — the first time a production inspired by the Tony award-winning Broadway show will be on a cruise ship.

The show will bring the world of Bikini Bottom to life in the Royal Theatre as part of Royal Caribbean’s award-winning entertainment portfolio.

“At Royal Caribbean, we’re focused on creating incredible experiences that bring families of all ages together in meaningful, memorable ways,” says Christi Coachman, vice-president of entertainment at Royal Caribbean. “Our entertainment line-up on Hero of the Seas is designed with something for everyone.

“The SpongeBob Musical delivers on that by bringing generations together through a story families know and love, while showcasing the creativity, cutting-edge technology and world-class production that can only be experienced on a Royal Caribbean vacation.”

Can SpongeBob and his Bikini Bottom friends save their town from total destruction?

+ Hero of the Seas will sail seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean adventures from Miami.
