Australian Idol royalty Marcia Hines has broken her silence after suffering a medical emergency on set of the singing show on Sunday night.

The 70-year-old judge reportedly collapsed in a dressing room at the Sydney Coliseum Theatre in Rooty Hill and was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.

Guy Sebastian was called in to replace her empty seat on the judging panel during Sunday night’s episode of grand finale week.

However, on Sunday night, Hines took to social media and reassured Australia she was “well” and would return to the show on Monday night.

“I’m very sorry that I’m not there with you all tonight,” she wrote on Instagram.

“It’s been a big few days of work and I was feeling a little unwell. I’m resting up now so I can be back with you all tomorrow night.”

According to Daily Mail Australia, the pop icon stayed in hospital overnight for observation but is expected to be released on Monday morning.

Sebastian, who performed on Sunday night’s episode alongside Sam Fisher, also shared an update on Hines’ absence.

“It was a busier day than planned,” he told Sunrise.

““We were sound checking and when we got there it was a sombre mood.

“And so Marcia — obviously as Kyle said — had to leave, and she, from what I know, she’s OK.

“I think that was the main concern at the start.

“Then Kyle made a joke, ‘Oh, I guess they might get you to fill in’ and I laughed, then literally at the same time my manager who is over there, is like, ‘Guy, we need to speak’.”

Channel 7 staff were understood to be told the issue was related to her diabetes, but other sources told media she had injured her head in a fall.

Idol host Ricki-Lee Coulter told viewers of Hines’ absence.

“You will have spotted that we are missing someone very important and very special to the Idol important and very special to the Idol family. Unfortunately, Marcia is unwell and unable to join us tonight,” she said.

Hines’ fellow judge Kyle Sandilands added: “Sorry, sorry. That’s a real downplay. She was taken out of here in an ambulance.”

“Just so that everyone knows. She’s fine. She’s well. But she didn’t just ring up with a headache. She went down.”

Hines has been a Type-1 diabetic for almost 40 years.

The Idol winner—out of top three contestants Amy, Dylan and Denvah—will be announced on Monday night.
