Hundreds expected to take part in Albany’s annual Charity Bikers Toy Run to raise funds for Christmas appeal

Roaring engines and Christmas tinsel are returning to Albany’s streets on Saturday for the annual Bikers Charity Toy Run. Organised by the Albany section of the Vintage Motorcycle Club of WA, riders will set off on their ride out to Frenchman Bay at 10am from Foundation Park on Parade Street. The beloved event has been running for 39 years and brings together motorcycling enthusiasts, families and community members to spread Christmas cheer while raising funds for the Salvation Army to help support those doing it tough this festive season. Salvation Army Lieutenant Colette Albino said the charity run was the biggest single event that raises funds for their Christmas appeal. “We have got 155 families that have applied for assistance this year and we will definitely be helping them with toys,” she said. Any donations are welcome, whether it’s toys, dry food or cash donations. Charity run organiser Lynton Morgan said last year the event had 290 riders and they were hoping for about the same this year. “We also sell badges to help with those donations,” Mr Lynton said. Anywhere along the foreshore between Anzac Peace Park and Amity Quay is a prime viewing spot for the event. The bikers are set to finish their ride at the Albany town square in York Street about 11am.
