Horror footage captures moment tanker ploughs into truck on Princes Freeway, driver left fighting for life

A truck driver is fighting for life after a dramatic freeway crash in Melbourne’s southeast - with insane footage capturing the highway carnage and its aftermath. Emergency services were called to the Princes Freeway at the Melbourne suburb of Officer, about 12.20pm on Wednesday after a tanker collided with the back of another truck, shutting down all outbound lanes. Shocking CCTV and dashcam footage reveals the moment the crash unfolded, showing one of the trucks failing to brake as it approached what appeared to be stopped traffic. The vehicle then slams into the rear of another truck, causing the second vehicle to lose its trailer. The detached trailer slides across the full width of the freeway before smashing into the windscreen of the first truck, leaving the driver trapped inside the crushed cabin. SES, Fire Rescue Victoria and Ambulance Victoria crews worked for about three hours to free the man, aged in his 50s. He was flown to The Alfred Hospital in a critical condition with serious injuries to his upper and lower body. The second truck driver was not injured. Motorists faced significant delays well into the afternoon as police investigated the cause of the crash.
