Ag Society Show will go on thanks to a funding boost

The show will go on, according to the Brunswick Agricultural Society.

Plans for a 2020 Brunswick Show have become a bit more tangible thanks to a $124,000 Federal Government boost.

Funding from the Regional Agricultural Show Development Grants program will go towards building watering points for the sheep, cattle and horse yards, as well as the construction of women’s changerooms.

The upgrades would give the Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault women’s football team dedicated locker rooms.

Agricultural society president Mark Talbot said the funding gave organisers confidence about holding a 2020 show.

“If it doesn’t happen, we will have invested in the infrastructure and we will be ready for next year,” he said. “So if, in the end, we can’t run the show, at least we will be working towards something for our community.”

Brunswick-born Forrest MHR Nola Marino said construction of the projects could begin even amid social distancing restrictions.

“The Brunswick Show is the biggest one-day show in the southern hemisphere,” Mrs Marino said.

“I’m pleased we have organisations stepping up to get things moving to help keep our regional communities going.”
