Boomers closer to a spot in the finals

The Eaton Boomers dazzled against Carey Park on Saturday night at Kelly Park, recording an emphatic 14.6 (90) to 9.6 (60) win. In a virtual elimination final for both teams, the home side was routinely unable to land a hammer blow against the flair-oriented Boomers, who made them pay for missed opportunities. The Panthers had the better of the opening exchanges and were able to get the ball into their key forwards on a regular basis. Following a spate of intense stoppages on the members’ side wing, versatile forward Riese Wilkey beautifully dobbed a goal from 55m out on the right half forward flank, with the loud symphony of car horns at the Bunbury Trotting Club end approving his effort. However from that moment on, the Boomers dictated every facet of the contest. With their gut running into the forward line almost infectious, the Boomers swarmed like ants over a leftover sandwich for the remainder of the quarter, with Jarrod Humphries reaping the rewards from the superb delivery. The home side did manage to enjoy a small purple patch towards the back end of the opening term, however poor kicking let them down. Throughout the middle stages of the game, the Boomers’ lead hovered around 20 points, although the margin felt far greater, due to their overall dominance. Aware that their finals hopes were hanging by a thread, the Panthers boldly took the game on in the third term, booting three goals in four minutes, which trimmed the deficit to three points at the 11-minute mark of the quarter. But that would be as close as they would get. The Boomers turned on the style for the remainder of the game and now look certain to play finals.
