A strong finish on the straight grabbed Miss Sondrio victory in the $17,500 JCW Electrical Group Handicap (1108m) at the Bunbury Turf Club on Sunday.

Jason Whiting rode the four-year-old brown mare to a second victory from three starts, coming from sixth on the turn to storm past leader Stirling Estate and hold off the Giadresco-trained Fair Nakita to win by a length in dominant fashion.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day the Keith Reeves-trained Northpace put in a powerful display, leading from start to finish to win the $17,500 CNW Electrical Wholesalers Handicap (1690m).

Jumping from barrier four, the seven-year-old never looked like losing, with Randy Tan riding the gelding to his first win since 2013.

It was Northpace’s fourth victory from 34 races, having places second in Bunbury last month.

The Michael Lane-trained Friarandice finished second by a nose to outsider Patapus in the $15,000 Go Molly 2018 Maiden (1208m).

Patapus, trained by Holly Locke, was a $21 outsider for the win, but the brown filly led from start to finish in just her second race of her career.

The next meet will be on Thursday, with the last meet of the year to be on December 28, before racing returns on New Year’s Day.
