Jack Farthing is up against a strong field

Justin Prentice’s five-year-old pacer Jack Farthing has drawn gate five in Friday night’s $300,000 Retravision Fremantle Cup (2536m) at Gloucester Park. Although the task of serving it up to the likes of legend Chicago Bull and Shockwave (driven by Capel’s Aiden De Campo) could faze some pacers, not even yesterday’s rain seemed to bother the quiet gelding, who was at peace in his paddock. Prentice is hopeful veteran reinsman Chris Lewis can slot Jack Farthing, who recently arrived from NSW, into a hole early, which could give him a chance to figure in the finish. “I think if we end up too far back and give those good horses too much of a head start, we are no chance of catching them,” he said. The five-year-old finished ninth to Vampiro at Gloucester Park on November 6, however North Boyanup-based Prentice was philosophical about his trip. “I clocked him going quicker than the winner and his last half was the quickest of the night, so I thought he still went really good,” he said. “Just around Gloucester Park it is too hard to come from that far back out wide.”
