Bunbury Hospital will be fit out with an extra operating theatre, an acute medical assessment unit and increased parking after an $11.8 million funding boost.

Premier Mark McGowan toured the regional hospital today before announcing the additional funding.

The money is on top of the $11 million already allocated to the hospital’s redevelopment in the State Budget.

“This funding injection will allow us to fast-track crucial additional upgrades to Bunbury Hospital to meet the growing needs of Bunbury and the South West,” Mr McGowan said.

“It will streamline services to allow patients to be treated in a more timely manner with a focus on contemporary models of care.”

The funding will also see the reconfiguration of the emergency department’s fast-track area, implementation of a mental health observation area, expanded capacity of the intensive care unit and improved Hospital in the Home and telehealth capabilities.

Bunbury MLA Don Punch labelled the funding boost as “a big win” for the community with the region’s population set to increase by more than 40,000 in the next 12 years.
